Eddy Merckx Womens Road Bikes
The brand is the man Eddy Merckx, who’s fans consider him to be the most successful cyclist that every was. His career spanned 17 years at the top and won over 500 competitions in that time. In 1978 the year he gave up competitive cycling he founded Eddy Merckx cycles and has been building a successful company in Belgium ever since. Every bike bought has a piece of the Cannibal engineered into it and many people who buy the brand know of the cyclist himself. The range of womens road bikes is limited to two in 2011 the AFX 1 and the EFX 1, but they are good bikes and offer different components at different levels of investment.
Eddy Merckx EFX 1
The Eddy Merckx EFX 1 is the womens carbon road bike offering with full carbon frame and forks. It runs on Fulcrum Racing 5 wheels and comes in two colour schemes, black or blue/white. It has a mixture of Campagnolo an Shimano Ultegra/105 components with a Campy Athena compact chainset. It has a FSA stem and Prologo saddle.
Eddy Merckx AFX 1
This aluminium alloy 7005 TB framed bike with carbon forks is certainly not to be overlooked. It has a disappointing Shimano Tiagra groupset which should really be 105 for the price. However it runs on Shimano RS10 wheels and has a Prologo saddle; The Eddy Merckx AFX 1 paint job isn’t bad either with predominantly white all over with blue designs.
Both Eddy Merckx bikes are certainly in the right price ranges compared to their competitors, but the Tiagra groupset on the AFX 1 let’s t down.
